Storytent at the Martinon Community Centre

School's out - welcome summer!

And what do you do when you get out of school?  Read, of course.

Here's a shout out to the Martinon Community Centre who welcomed us in to join their 3rd annual 'End of School Party.' They had hula-hoops, kick-balls, sidewalk chalk, healthy snacks (with cotton candy dessert), and terrific weather.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves reading with more than two dozen great kids.

Storytent at RiverCross

Our first summer storytent for 2016 was an event tent on June 12th, from noon until three, at RiverCross.  It was Celebration Sunday, and we were meant to be outside at a barbecue.  Alas, the rain came down in buckets.  Still, the good people of RiverCross found us a cozy spot just inside their foyer, where we were joined by 20 readers, young and old.

This was our third... or, gosh, maybe fourth? year joining in with RiverCross, and it always feels like home.  We'll see the gang again at summer's end for their cornboil, and on Hallowe'en for their super-fun 'Trunk n Treat.'

Quality Storytents, 2016

QLNB's Cheryl Brown receives a cheque from Heather McKend,
Head of Children’s Services at the Saint John Free Public Library

Storytents are happening in Saint John, and across New Brunswick, for a lucky 13th year in a row!

This year, Quality Learning NB will be outreaching the Summer Reading Club and running weekly tents from June 30th through August 25th at the Nason Road playground in the Michael Crescent / Silver Falls area. We will also be part of events and community celebrations across the city from June through October.

QLNB has received major support for storytents from the Province of New Brunswick.  Additional support has come from the Saint John Free Public Library,  the City of Saint John's "Passport to Parks" initiative, and the Literacy Coalition of New Brunswick's Peter Gzowski Invitational (PGI).

We also want to thank our many hosts, who include RiverCross, the Martinon Community Centre, and the Silver Falls Community Association.
